Our Journey to Little Meg...

I'll make this a quick version of what Jay and I have encountered over this last year or so (quick is still long...sorry):

In January 2010, we decided that we wanted to start our journey to adopting a child. We attended our first adoption orientation with an agency called Loving Alternatives in February. We were forever changed by this orientation and knew immediatly that this is what God was calling us to do.

We had completed all of our paperwork and evaluations by May (including our detailed Home Study, which is one of the most important, time consuming parts). After all of this was finished, we started working on our "book". It was a story telling album about us that birthmother's would look at to decide if we were the right people to parent their child.

In June, we started working with additional agency in the Dallas area called Adoption Access. They placed more babies in a year then Loving Alternatives, so it increased our chances of becoming parents quicker.

Sure enough, by July 20th we had met and officially been matched with a birthmother in Houston who was giving birth to a baby boy via C-section sometime before or during the first week of August.

On August 4th, we faithfully travelled to Houston where we would stay for a few days to spend time with the birthmother, watch what we thought was our baby boy be delivered and bring him back to Dallas to his new home. Unfortunately, the birthmother changed her mind at the last minute leaving us broken hearted and headed back to Dallas with no baby. We tried to stay strong and realize that God had most likely protected us from something we didn't know about and our reward would be greater in the future.

We received a phone call from Adoption Access on August 18th saying that a birthmother had given birth to a baby that morning and had already been discharged leaving her baby at the hospital...the same hospital in Houston where we had been before. It was a baby girl and it was ours if we wanted her!

On August 20th, we made the trek back to Houston to pick up our baby girl and return home to Dallas. When we got to the hospital, we were greeted with the news that she had been admitted into the NICU overnight because she was having trouble breathing and eating due to fluid in her lungs. The doctors had put her on antibiotics and we would need to be in Houston a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 10 days. We checked into a hotel, went shopping for some clothes and visited that baby girl day and night!

The doctors got her bloodwork back on August 22nd, and it showed that everything was clear and there was never an infection needing the antibiotics. She was discharged and we were able to bring her home!

We now have a beautiful addition to our family...Margaret Nell Coile, but we call her Meg.

We can't post pictures anywhere for 6 months when the adoption is finalized in court...so we will use this blog for anyone who wants to keep up with Miss Meg!

When we first met Meg, she was on and IV and a feeding tube! :(
